"Heritage isn't just about old stones and dates — it's about the lives that shaped those streets, the decisions that echoed through those lanes, and the stories that still matter today. When you walk with purpose and understanding, you're not just seeing Ireland's past, you're connecting with it."

Background & Expertise
Síle grew up exploring Kilkenny's medieval streets and castle grounds — the kind of childhood that shapes your entire life. What started as weekend wandering through historic lanes became an obsession with understanding how people actually lived in these spaces. That curiosity led her to University College Cork, where she studied Irish Medieval History and discovered that the real expertise comes from combining academic knowledge with genuine connection to place.
After graduating in 2008, she worked as a museum educator at Kilkenny Castle for a year. But she quickly realized that museum walls couldn't contain what she wanted to teach. The stories belong on the streets where they happened. So in 2009, she transitioned into private tour guiding — and hasn't looked back since.
Over the past 16 years, she's guided more than 3,500 visitors through Kilkenny's medieval quarters, the complete Derry Walls circuit, Cobh's Victorian harbour promenades, and Limerick's Georgian and medieval routes. But here's what sets her apart: she's trained in gerontology and works closely with occupational therapists to ensure every route accommodates varying mobility levels. She doesn't believe heritage should be reserved for the young and able-bodied. Every senior traveller deserves access to these stories.

Her Kilkenny routes balance historical depth with physical accessibility.
Complete knowledge of the Derry Walls — one of Europe's most intact medieval city walls. She guides visitors through the historic significance, architectural details, and the lived experiences of people who defended and inhabited these fortifications. Her route design ensures comfortable pacing for all mobility levels.
Deep expertise in Cobh's Victorian maritime heritage, transatlantic emigration history, and waterfront architecture. She understands how to make harbour-side routes engaging for senior travellers, including rest points, shelter options, and layered storytelling about the people who departed from these docks.
Comprehensive knowledge of Limerick's Georgian architecture, medieval streets, and cultural evolution. She combines architectural analysis with human stories — who built what, why it mattered, and what those decisions mean today. Routes accommodate various mobility needs while revealing layers of urban history.
Trained in gerontology with practical experience accommodating varied mobility levels. She designs routes with strategic rest points, accessible facilities, gradual elevation changes, and flexibility for individual pace. Working knowledge of mobility aids, fatigue patterns, and how to maintain engagement without physical strain.

Read GuideCore Beliefs
Síle's approach is grounded in a simple belief: heritage shouldn't be rationed. It's not just for young, able-bodied tourists who can walk three hours without stopping. The most profound appreciation for history often comes from people with time and life experience — people who can connect what they're learning to everything they've already lived through.
She's spent 16 years proving that rigorous historical knowledge and practical accessibility aren't opposites — they're partners. You can tell a complex, nuanced story about medieval urban development while ensuring that someone using a walking stick isn't exhausted by the route. You can honor the architectural significance of Georgian squares while building in shaded rest areas. You can be intellectually serious and physically considerate at the same time.
That's why she trained in gerontology. That's why she works with occupational therapists. That's why every route she designs accounts for varying mobility levels, fatigue patterns, and the simple human need to sit down and absorb what you've learned. Heritage is richer when it's shared. And it's only shared when it's accessible.
